Elementary Education
The Maple Bear program for elementary education is also based on the Canadian model of teaching, which is among the top 5 worldwide in language, mathematics and science.
Among its principles is observation, problem solving, decision making and developing independent children with critical thinking. Students develop both socially and academically, creating an environment favourable to learning and social integration.
The Maple Bear program for elementary education meets the parameters established by the Ministry of Education of Brazil and, as a bilingual program, offers English, Science and Mathematics lessons in English.
Children who are properly educated in a bilingual system, develop skills in the new language and tend to have better performance in their first language. Research also proves that the skills acquired in one language are easily transported to another language.
The English language program develops all the skills including: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Science and Mathematics are based on modern programs currently in use in Canada.
The Portuguese language program is as important as the English language program and includes Brazilian and regional values. Experienced Brazilian educators used the same principles that guide Canadian education to develop a Maple Bear exclusive Portuguese Language program.
Students of Maple Bear Canadian School benefit from the extraordinary ability of a Canadian bilingual education and a great Portuguese language program completely suited to Brazilian cultural life.
In reading and writing, the teacher must be aware of the development of each student. The initial interpretation of their output enables the teacher to understand the formulations made by the student on the alphabetic system of representation. In constant contact with various carriers and with text written productions, even before you graph them conventionally, the student builds the ability to read and write independently.
A literate environment must offer students participation in situations of actual reading and writing, such as reading the usage rules of a game, production of invitations from school events, production of tickets to parents, monitoring the schedules of activities, notes to be remembered later. Students should also broaden the knowledge of classic tales and appreciate works of contemporary authors of children's literature.
The daily school routine should include didactic situations to reflect on the alphabetic writing system and ownership of written language. It should also include a variety of activities with different purposes and at the same time, repetitions of them to gradual qualitative improvement in student performance.
BridgeS Elementary
Maple Bear developed the "Bridge Elementary," an education program to be applied to the new elementary school students not fluent in English. The material is a reinforcement of English, the result of research on bilingualism held in Canada and based on authentic language development programs for children.
